What’s a IR-CUT Filter Switch?
An IR-CUT filter switch is an automatic mechanical system, which use primarily in day/night security cameras, Dashcams and some photography equipment. Generally there are two pieces of optical filters inside, one piece Infrared cut-off filters, and the other is AR coated filter or non coated filter. It physically moves an IR-cut filter in or out of the optical path between the camera’s image sensor and the lens.
Why it need IR-CUT Filter Switch in camera lens?
Its core function is to optimize image quality in both daylight and low-light (night) conditions by controlling which wavelengths of light reach the camera’s sensor. here is the principle how it works:
1.In Daylight: Camera lens are naturally sensitive to both visible and infrared light, but excess Infrared will cause image color to appear washed out, inaccurate, and with a reddish cast, the IR filters inside the switch can filter the IR light to restore the accurate colors. The function of Cut off the Infrared (IR) light is so called “IR-CUT”.
2.At Night: The visual light is not enough to make a clear image, The security camera typically use IR LEDs to illuminate the scene with infrared light, thus need to remove IR filter from the optical path and only used the high transmittance filter glass, normally this filter is coated with Anti-Reflective (AR) film to improve transmittance rate.
