What Is Dielectric-Coated Near-Infrared Transmitting Black Glass?
Dielectric coated near-infrared transmitting black glass is an optical filtering component by depositing optical thin films onto a colored glass substrate.
- Appearance: The coated surface displays the color of the coating layer, while the opposite side retains the original black appearance of the glass substrate.
- Optical Properties: This filter combines the light selective absorbing properties of colored glass with selective near-infrared transmission. It provides extremely low transmittance across the visible light range of 400–700nm, effectively shielding the sensors and electronic components behind it from visible light. At the same time, it transmits specific near-infrared wavelengths, such as 905nm and 950nm, which LiDAR systems commonly use. Typical transmittance can exceed 90%. with Anti-Reflection (AR) coating it can further increase transmittance to 95% by reducing reflection losses at the target wavelengths and allowing more infrared light to pass through.
Based on these properties, The dielectric-coated near-infrared transmitting black glass find applications in LiDAR windows, infrared sensing systems, and imaging systems. It serves as an essential optical window filter that blocks ambient stray light and improves the signal-to-noise ratio.

Shenzhen Hengda Liyuan Optoelectronics uses advanced optical vacuum coating technology to deposit nano-materials onto multilayer hard-film structures through ion-assisted evaporation in a high-vacuum environment. This process creates firm, dense coating layers and minimizes spectral bandwidth drift. With more than 17 years of experience in optical coating, the company provides one-stop optical filter solutions, including Narrow Bandpass Filters, IR Cut-off Filters, Longpass Filters, Shortpass Filters, Notch Filters, ND Filters, Star Filters, and Optical Sapphire Blocks.
Remark: Interference filters exhibit different spectral performance at different angles of incidence. Their spectral parameters also determine their appearance color. Since product images may show the filters from different shooting angles, the actual color may vary. Please refer to the final required spectral parameters when evaluating the product’s appearance.
