What are key parameters should consider when choosing a suitable Quad-band Optical Bandpass Filter?

When selecting a Quad-Band Optical Bandpass Filter, in generally the following parameters need to be taken into consideration for reference:

  • Central Wavelength (CWL): First, specify the CWL for each passband. It defines the center of the wavelength range that the filter transmits. For a four-bandpass filter, closer central wavelengths make the coating process more challenging.
  • Peak or Average Transmittance: Typical transmittance reaches 90% or higher. An anti-reflective (AR) coating can help increase transmittance.
  • Full Width at Half Maximum (FWHM): FWHM defines the wavelength interval between the two points where transmittance reaches 50% of its peak value.
  • Blocking Level: Manufacturers usually express blocking performance as optical density (OD). OD2 serves as a standard level, while specific requirements may call for OD3–OD5. Adjacent passbands can affect the actual blocking depth of quad-band filters, so check the measured spectral curve.
  • Angle of Incidence (AOI): Interference filters are sensitive to the angle of incidence, so the AOI for application should be specified. The default is 0°, other angles such as 30° or 45° can be specified.
  • Physical and Environmental Requirements: the substrate material, dimensions, thickness, surface quality, and environmental durability to ensure the filter meets specified application requirements.

Shenzhen Hengda Liyuan Optoelectronics introduced advanced optical vacuum technology that apply depositing nano-materials through ion-assisted evaporation onto a multilayer hard film in a high vacuum environment which the coating layer is firm and has good tightness and small bandwidth drift. The company have been focus on optical coating for more than 17 years ,and the company offer one-stop optical filters solution including Narrow Bandpass Filters, IR cut-off Filters, Longpass Filters, Shortpass Filters, Notch Filters, ND filters, Star filters and Optical sapphire block.

Remark:Because the interference type filter varies its spectral performance at different angles, the spectral parameters usually determine its appearance color; moreover, the pictures in this link may originate from various shooting angles, so the actual color of the parts should therefore refer to the final spectral parameters required.
